Big Fashion For The Smallest Bridal Party Member - Your Flower Girl

Brides of America knows that finding the perfect dress to wear on your very special day can be a dream come true. Once you've accomplished that and picked out some amazing bridesmaid gowns, you can start looking at adorable little dresses to put your flower girl in. You will find many beautiful choices at our Miami bridal boutique from the incredible Joan Calabrese, and in today's blog, we've put together a few tips and ideas for the littlest beauty at your wedding.

Choosing Your Flower Girl
Traditionally, the young lady gently dropping flower petals to adorn the bride's walk down the aisle is under the age of 10. Of course, when it comes to your wedding, that's completely up to you. There is no set rule saying older girls cannot be a flower girl, and we've even seen some sweet photos online from a couple that used their grandmother's in this role.

As far as the number of flower girls, one is sufficiently adorable enough to please the crowd and get the job done. Two young ladies allow them to help each other down the aisle, making it a little less scary. If you want to have an entire parade of flower girls announcing your entrance, well, that could be pretty impressive. Definitely something your guests will remember!

Getting Her Ready For Your Big Day
If your flower girl is very young, she may need a little more prep work than an older girl. Walking down that long aisle with lots of strangers staring at you can be intimidating for a child. Get her excited by talking about it often before the wedding, and make sure that she is at the rehearsal for practice. Also, make sure that someone she trusts is at the front of the ceremony to coax her down the aisle, and another trusted person is at the back of the aisle to get the walk started. Never expect a young child to stand through the entire ceremony. They could get bored, and it's very likely that they will distract your guests from the important part - your vows.

Picking The Perfect Dress
When it comes time to dress shop, we suggest having a style in mind that will work well with your overall wedding plans, but listen to your flower girl's opinions too. Find a few dresses that you love, then bring her in to pick her favorite from those. Your flower girl will be much more cooperative if she gets to make some of her own decisions. Brides of America will help to make sure that this particular shopping trip is a very special experience for her.

The Fashions of Joan Calabrese
You will find the best flower girl dresses in Miami within our walls, and that is due to the fact that we carry the amazing collections of Joan Calabrese. Joan grew up in Philadelphia, born into a family of Italian artisans. Her love of fashion blossomed at an early age. She began sewing clothing for her dolls from the fabric scraps that she collected. Eventually earning a full scholarship to the Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, she chose to turn it down and stay home with her family instead. That did not stop her from pursuing her passion though. Having two young daughters of her own, Joan decided to create fabulous clothing for children.

Her now successful business began in 1975 with an order for 40 dresses that she crafted in her basement studio. Not long after that, large orders began pouring in. Her clothing has been worn by young members of the British Royal Family, daughters of many Heads of State, and numerous celebrity children. The Metropolitan Museum of Art features two of Joan's designs in their Permanent Collection of their Costume Institute, and she has even been installed in the Costume Collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Joan makes it a point to attend fabric shows in Paris twice a year. Her design inspiration comes from European fashion and couture fashion publications. Fine fabrication is extremely important to her, and her dresses are well-known for their exquisite fabric and detail, as well as pristine lines. Every little girl will feel as special and pretty as the bride in one of these adorable and whimsical flower girl dresses.

Finding the perfect flower girl for your wedding is one of the more fun things that you will have to do during your wedding planning. It's Brides of America's pleasure to help you find the perfect flower girl dress for her. Let our Miami bridal boutique put you in the most amazing wedding dress, then we'll get to work on all of the rest of the wedding day fashions too.

The Smallest Beauty at the Wedding - The Flower Girl

Basket from WhereBridesGo.com
The flower girl is a young family member or good friend's child that you have asked to announce your grand bridal entrance with a carpet of flower petals.  Today it is perfectly acceptable to ask anyone you like to cover this position.  Young, older, male, female... but for the sake of this blog, we will be focusing on the most general idea of a flower girl.  The sweet young child that gets so excited thinking about getting to dress up like the bride and her bridesmaids.  The best bridal store in Miami carries the most beautiful gowns for you and your girls, including charming dresses for flower girls too.

The Look

First of all, she needs a charming dress to walk down the aisle in.  Brides of America in Miami features adorable flower girl dresses for these little ladies from two magnificent designers:  Rosebud Fashions and Joan Calabrese.
Every young girl will feel like a princess in any one of these options.

Rosebud Fashions

Just like with your bridesmaids' dresses, this one should fit in with the look and feel of your wedding.  They come in all shapes, sizes, and materials.  Flower girls, and a junior bride, are the only other people allowed to wear all white besides the woman getting married.  Many couples choose to put a pop of color on their flower girls, like a beautiful sash in the wedding color, or maybe some sweet sparkly shoes.

The Job

Everyone loves watching the flower head down the aisle scattering petals along the way.  It can go many ways.  Shy ones can fight heading into the ceremony, or try to get it over with quickly and make a dash for it!  Some believe they are the center of attention and enjoy the long walk being in the spotlight, hamming it up as they go, meticulously placing each petal properly. You could have a happy-go-lucky flower girl that bounds down the aisle skipping with a smile and a song.  The one guarantee is that it is sure to be a great photo opportunity.

This is a great area to add a personal touch to your wedding.  If the ceremony is rustic, a cute wicker basket or metal pail works nicely.  Also, a flower girl doesn't necessarily have to throw flowers.  Some brides choose to have them carry a sign announcing their entrance.  If you are having a beach wedding, let her drop colorful starfish or seashells along your path, or for a romantic theme let her toss heart-shaped confetti.

The Photos

A little girl staring in awe at a bride's dress hanging up before the wedding, or a picture of her getting ready like the "big girls" always tugs at a person's heartstrings.  Another great shot for your photographer to capture is the groom dancing with her in his arms.  If you have a full skirt on your wedding gown, a photo of your flower girl hiding underneath it is funny and cute.  A flower girl's sweetness is sure to add whimsy throughout the day and the photographs.

The flower girl may seem like a very small part of your wedding, but she can add big fun and adorable memories to the entire event.  Spending the day out shopping for a flower girl dress for your wedding with her and her mother is a great way to show this little lady how important she is to you and the ceremony.  Bring her to Brides of America in Miami and let us help you to treat her like a princess.
