The Smallest Beauty at the Wedding - The Flower Girl

Basket from WhereBridesGo.com
The flower girl is a young family member or good friend's child that you have asked to announce your grand bridal entrance with a carpet of flower petals.  Today it is perfectly acceptable to ask anyone you like to cover this position.  Young, older, male, female... but for the sake of this blog, we will be focusing on the most general idea of a flower girl.  The sweet young child that gets so excited thinking about getting to dress up like the bride and her bridesmaids.  The best bridal store in Miami carries the most beautiful gowns for you and your girls, including charming dresses for flower girls too.

The Look

First of all, she needs a charming dress to walk down the aisle in.  Brides of America in Miami features adorable flower girl dresses for these little ladies from two magnificent designers:  Rosebud Fashions and Joan Calabrese.
Every young girl will feel like a princess in any one of these options.

Rosebud Fashions

Just like with your bridesmaids' dresses, this one should fit in with the look and feel of your wedding.  They come in all shapes, sizes, and materials.  Flower girls, and a junior bride, are the only other people allowed to wear all white besides the woman getting married.  Many couples choose to put a pop of color on their flower girls, like a beautiful sash in the wedding color, or maybe some sweet sparkly shoes.

The Job

Everyone loves watching the flower head down the aisle scattering petals along the way.  It can go many ways.  Shy ones can fight heading into the ceremony, or try to get it over with quickly and make a dash for it!  Some believe they are the center of attention and enjoy the long walk being in the spotlight, hamming it up as they go, meticulously placing each petal properly. You could have a happy-go-lucky flower girl that bounds down the aisle skipping with a smile and a song.  The one guarantee is that it is sure to be a great photo opportunity.

This is a great area to add a personal touch to your wedding.  If the ceremony is rustic, a cute wicker basket or metal pail works nicely.  Also, a flower girl doesn't necessarily have to throw flowers.  Some brides choose to have them carry a sign announcing their entrance.  If you are having a beach wedding, let her drop colorful starfish or seashells along your path, or for a romantic theme let her toss heart-shaped confetti.

The Photos

A little girl staring in awe at a bride's dress hanging up before the wedding, or a picture of her getting ready like the "big girls" always tugs at a person's heartstrings.  Another great shot for your photographer to capture is the groom dancing with her in his arms.  If you have a full skirt on your wedding gown, a photo of your flower girl hiding underneath it is funny and cute.  A flower girl's sweetness is sure to add whimsy throughout the day and the photographs.

The flower girl may seem like a very small part of your wedding, but she can add big fun and adorable memories to the entire event.  Spending the day out shopping for a flower girl dress for your wedding with her and her mother is a great way to show this little lady how important she is to you and the ceremony.  Bring her to Brides of America in Miami and let us help you to treat her like a princess.
