How to Safely Shop Online for Your Wedding Dress

Our online wedding dress store is listed as an " authorized dealer" or "authorized retailer" of all Mori Lee Bridal Collections. These are very important phrases to look for when you decide to do your bridal gown shopping online rather than in-store. It means that Brides of America is selling designer gowns directly from Mori Lee, and you will never have to worry about receiving a knock-off, copycat dress.

Shopping for a wedding dress online may be the best option for you if you simply cannot make the time to go to the store, or if the store that you know you want your bridal gown from is too far away from where you live. At Brides of America, we carry only the most exquisite wedding dresses, and we want to make sure that every woman has access to them, not just the lovely brides that are able to travel to our Miami bridal boutique.

Warning Signs of a Possible Counterfeit Dress

The sale of counterfeit wedding dresses has become a huge problem, especially online, but there are warning signs that you can look out for. If you notice any of the following, proceed with caution. You may be looking at a retailer's site that is not authorized to sell the product that they claim to have.

Discount of 50% or more
Weddings can get expensive quickly, and finding a beautiful bridal gown at an incredible price can be very tempting. We are not saying that it's impossible to find the perfect brand-name dress at a great price, but if the discount is more than 50% off, more than likely that's too good to be true.

If a retailer is offering a gown at too low of a price, this could mean that the dress that shows up in the mail is not the one that you thought you were ordering. Instead, it could be their own version, made by an unknown seamstress, with inferior materials and skill.

Lots of unhappy customer reviews
Reviews reveal a lot about a company. Do an online search for reviews posted outside of the store's own website. WeddingWire.com is a great place to start.

No one is perfect, so 1 or 2 bad reviews is a possibility for any company, but if the majority of reviews are filled with angry comments and horrible experiences, then you should definitely stop looking at that retailer. If they have made a large amount or women unhappy with their products, your experience is very likely to be similar.

Retailer's name not on designer's website
Every reputable designer will have a list of places that their gowns are sold. If you cannot find the list, reach out to the company and they will gladly tell you if the store you are researching is actually authorized to sell their products. If the designer has never heard of a store, then you will know that the wedding dresses being sold there are not the real thing.

No clear contact information or guarantees
If the return information and dress guarantees are difficult to understand, it may be because they don't care about actually guaranteeing your satisfaction. Once that company has your money, they are no longer worried about your experience.

Also, if there is no clear contact information listed, or if it is impossible to get a hold of anyone through the phone numbers or emails provided, then that is a store you should not be doing business with. If you do have any problems or questions, you want to be able to talk to someone that can help.

Don't Be Fooled By Counterfeit Dresses

The danger of buying a counterfeit wedding dress online is a topic that we have covered in the past, but it is a very important and sometimes misunderstood subject.  Most brides only shop for a wedding dress once in a lifetime, so they may not be aware of the red flags to look out for.  Brides of America wants to make sure that every bride-to-be out there is educated about this common scam.

We recently received an email from a very upset bride that was convinced our store had cheated her by selling an overpriced dress.  She found what she believed to be the exact same gown online for only $185, over $500 less than she paid for it in our wedding dress store in Miami.  Being a first-time wedding gown buyer, she was not aware of the red flags letting her know that the "designer" dress she found so cheap was a fake.

Counterfeit Dress Warning Signs:

1. The price is discounted 50% or more
off of the suggested retail price.

2. The dealer is not listed on the designer's
website as an authorized dealer.

3. The dealer has multiple bad reviews
online from unhappy customers.

4. The guarantees and contact
information are unclear or missing.

David Abadi, the owner of Brides of America, explained to this young woman how there are many online stores that take photos from designer's websites and pass them off as their own.  The dress that shows up will most likely look nothing like what was ordered.  Since it is not made by a trusted designer, the quality will also be subpar.

Another important point is the fact that even though you think you are saving money with the discounted prices, you may end up spending more.  It is very common for these counterfeit gowns to show up nowhere near the size that you ordered, requiring expensive alterations.  Some brides have told horror stories of dresses being so dramatically different from what they ordered that they had to buy a second dress because the fake one was not even wearable.

Once the woman that sent the email was educated about these facts, she sent an apology to David.  The incident really made him want to re-visit this subject to reach other brides-to-be.  Our wedding gown store considers all of our customers friends once they enter the store.  It is very upsetting if anyone ever thinks that they have been taken advantage of because the relationships that we have with our clients, during the sale and after, are very important to us.

Mori Lee has a list of counterfeit sites that are known to sell knockoffs of their beautiful designer wedding gowns.  This is a great place to start your research before shopping.  They also have a list of authorized Mori Lee dealers that you can trust.

Brides of America is proud to be a bridal store in Miami and online that many people have come to love and trust.  Our customers are like family to us, and we will do everything in our power to make sure that they are treated with the professionalism and respect that they deserve.

4 Tips to Avoid Buying a Counterfeit Dress

Brides of America is an authorized dealer and retailer of all Morilee Bridal Lines.  When you buy a wedding gown in Miami at our store or order your wedding gown online from us, you are guaranteed to get the real deal.  We will NEVER sell a knock-off to our very special brides.

Weddings can get expensive quickly once the planning has started.  A gown is a must-have item, and unfortunately some people try to take advantage of this fact by offering dresses that look like the one you want, but are nowhere near the quality.  That gown may never even make it through your entire wedding without coming apart.

Another nightmare scenario is it barely showing up in time for the ceremony, and showing up completely different from what you thought you ordered.  Even if you have time for alterations, counterfeit wedding dresses are often so far off from the size that you actually need, the repairs can end up costing as much as you would have spent on the real designer dress.

Mori Lee has an entire list of counterfeit sites selling Mori Lee gowns and using copyrighted images without their consent.  Below are a few ways to tell if the deal you are thinking about taking is just too good to be true.

Discount of 50% or more

You can occasionally luck out and find what you want on sale, but a discount this big on a designer gown from someone you don't know online is a gigantic red flag.  A discount that large would not even cover the cost to make the real dress. so at that price it cannot be made from the quality materials you are expecting.

Not listed on designers website

All designers have a list of businesses that are authorized to sell their gowns.  Before you buy yours, take a look at the designer's web page.  If the company isn't listed, then it's either a fake dress or they are not approved to sell that merchandise.  You can also make a phone call to the designer's company and ask about the site that you want to buy from.  They can help you to determine who is okay to buy from and who you should steer clear of.

Bad reviews

Do an internet search for reviews on the company you are looking at.  If they are selling inferior dresses, someone out there will be complaining about it.  Reviews directly on that company's site can be hidden, but not on a site that they have no control over.  Unhappy brides will make sure that they are heard.

No clear guarantees or contact info

If the return information and dress guarantees are hard to understand, it may be because they don't care about actually guaranteeing your satisfaction.  If a phone number or email address is listed but no one ever answers them, then that's a sure sign that they will not be taking care of any problems that you end up having.

Facebook has a few pages dedicated to women sharing photos and horror stories about buying counterfeit dresses.  Brides Beware and International Ownership are two very informative ones.

Every bride wants to feel special in an amazing wedding dress on her wedding day.  None of them want to look more like they simply dressed up in a costume.  You get what you pay for, and in the end it will save you a lot of worry and stress to spend a little extra on your wedding gown to insure exceptional quality with no scary surprises.

Brides of America is here to help you find that incredible, high quality wedding dress that you deserve.  You will find our store listed on Mori Lee's website as an authorized dealer of their beautiful gowns, so you know that you can trust us to sell designer dresses for your wedding.
