Don't Be Fooled By Counterfeit Dresses

The danger of buying a counterfeit wedding dress online is a topic that we have covered in the past, but it is a very important and sometimes misunderstood subject.  Most brides only shop for a wedding dress once in a lifetime, so they may not be aware of the red flags to look out for.  Brides of America wants to make sure that every bride-to-be out there is educated about this common scam.

We recently received an email from a very upset bride that was convinced our store had cheated her by selling an overpriced dress.  She found what she believed to be the exact same gown online for only $185, over $500 less than she paid for it in our wedding dress store in Miami.  Being a first-time wedding gown buyer, she was not aware of the red flags letting her know that the "designer" dress she found so cheap was a fake.

Counterfeit Dress Warning Signs:

1. The price is discounted 50% or more
off of the suggested retail price.

2. The dealer is not listed on the designer's
website as an authorized dealer.

3. The dealer has multiple bad reviews
online from unhappy customers.

4. The guarantees and contact
information are unclear or missing.

David Abadi, the owner of Brides of America, explained to this young woman how there are many online stores that take photos from designer's websites and pass them off as their own.  The dress that shows up will most likely look nothing like what was ordered.  Since it is not made by a trusted designer, the quality will also be subpar.

Another important point is the fact that even though you think you are saving money with the discounted prices, you may end up spending more.  It is very common for these counterfeit gowns to show up nowhere near the size that you ordered, requiring expensive alterations.  Some brides have told horror stories of dresses being so dramatically different from what they ordered that they had to buy a second dress because the fake one was not even wearable.

Once the woman that sent the email was educated about these facts, she sent an apology to David.  The incident really made him want to re-visit this subject to reach other brides-to-be.  Our wedding gown store considers all of our customers friends once they enter the store.  It is very upsetting if anyone ever thinks that they have been taken advantage of because the relationships that we have with our clients, during the sale and after, are very important to us.

Mori Lee has a list of counterfeit sites that are known to sell knockoffs of their beautiful designer wedding gowns.  This is a great place to start your research before shopping.  They also have a list of authorized Mori Lee dealers that you can trust.

Brides of America is proud to be a bridal store in Miami and online that many people have come to love and trust.  Our customers are like family to us, and we will do everything in our power to make sure that they are treated with the professionalism and respect that they deserve.
