Helpful Tips For Attending Bridal Shows

There are a lot of details to take care of when you plan a wedding, and attending bridal shows is an excellent way to get lots of tasks tackled at once, plus find creative inspiration for your special day. Brides of America realizes that some of the larger bridal shows can be overwhelming, but we've put together some advice to help you get the most out of one.

*Sign Yourself Up

Pre-register
First of all, if the bridal show allows pre-registration, take advantage of it. It will save you precious time when you arrive, letting you skip the sign-up line and get to the show floor much faster. Another bonus of pre-registering is that some shows offer special perks for early sign-up, plus you will be on their mailing list for updated show information and specials.

Wedding Freebies
Once inside the doors, most of the wedding vendor booths will have giveaways for you to sign up for. With everything that you will be spending to put on a wedding, free swag is always welcome. To save yourself a lot of time, and to keep your hand from cramping up from writing your contact information over and over, make labels to bring along with you to the show. Pre-print your name, the groom's name, your wedding date, email address, phone number, and address; then when it's time to sign up, simply peel and stick. Quick & simple!

Be aware, though, that these vendors are using the drawings to get your contact information so that they can try to sell you their services. If you don't want to be contacted, either don't sign up or you can create a temporary email address to use specifically for your wedding. That way, all of your wedding correspondence will be kept together in one space, away from your regular emails, and you can discontinue that email address once the wedding is over.

*Make A Plan For The Day

Choose Helpers
A bridal show is the perfect place for you and your fiance to get some great ideas for your wedding decor and also check out many different vendors all in one stop. It can also be a fun day to get all of the girls from your wedding party together. They can help you get some wedding tasks accomplished, and you all get to have a girls' day out in the process. Decide who will help you get the most out of the bridal show and ask them to join you.

Map Your Route
Next, take a look at the list of vendors that will be there and plan who you need to visit the most. Start with vendors that you still need to hire, and if there is time left over, you can browse the other booths to see if you can find some new ideas or great deals you simply can't pass up.

There are often special events planned for specific times, like a fashion show or first dance demonstration. If there is something that you really want to see, plan the timing so that you are in the right place at the right time. Seating can fill up fast, so if you don't want to stand through it, get to the stage early.

*Don't Forget To Bring...
We've already mentioned that bringing along labels to use for giveaway sign-ups can make that part of your day a lot easier. Here are a few more items that you should bring with you too.

  • Comfortable Shoes!
If you've chosen to use the show for a fun ladies' day out, you may have the urge to get all dressed up. That's fine, as long as you stay sensible when it comes to your shoes. There will be lots and lots of walking involved, and possibly big crowds to maneuver through. You may regret wearing high heels halfway through the day. There are plenty of fashionable options for your feet that will keep you comfy too.
  • Calendar
There will be a lot of other brides wanting to visit the same booths that you do. Once you find a vendor that you like, get out that calendar and book an appointment to speak to them in more detail.
  • Checkbook / Credit Card
Many vendors will be offering "bridal show only" discounts if you book them during the show. You will want to have your credit card handy so that you can put down your deposit and get your wedding date on their calendar. Bring your checkbook too. Some smaller businesses may not have the ability to accept credit cards.
  • CashIt's probably going to be a long day, and you'll most likely be doing a lot of walking. At some point you may want something to eat or drink beyond the sweet cake samples. A little bit of spending cash will come in handy because that is all that some pop-up bars and small food stands can accept.
  • A Bag For Goodies
You'll be gathering a lot of business cards and informational pamphlets at each booth that you visit, as well as promotional goodies that they'll be giving away. You may be handed a bag to use when you arrive at the bridal show, but having an extra one isn't a bad idea. You can use one bag for your VIP information, and the other to hold stuff that is second-string. Don't throw away any vendor information until you have contracts signed, though. That way, if your first choice doesn't work out, you can still get in touch with other vendors that you liked.

**Have Fun With It!
There are wedding planning tasks that can be stressful, but attending a bridal show doesn't have to be one of them. Remember to enjoy the moment. After all, brides-to-be are queens for the day at a bridal show. Every vendor there will be catering to you, hoping to get your attention and your business. Enjoy the attention, as well as the useful information that you can find at a bridal show.

Another wedding task that doesn't have to be stressful is finding your dream bridal gown. Castle Weddings Let You Play Princess For A Day

One giant benefit to selling the best wedding dresses in Miami is getting the chance to hear the magical plans that each bride has for her upcoming wedding. Every couple has their own unique style, and we get the chance to hear about a wide variety of themes, ideas, and wedding locations.

Recently, a bride came into Brides of America looking for the perfect bridal gown to wear to her wedding in Germany, which will take place in a magnificent castle. She had photos of the gorgeous venue to show us, and we all immediately fell in love with the location! After she left, we were still daydreaming about how fantastical a castle wedding could be.

The Venue
Anyone can plan a classic fairy tale wedding, but finding an actual castle to host it in will make it very unique and extra exciting for you and your wedding guests. Entering the venue will immediately set the stage and make everyone feel as if they are about to become a part of your "Once upon a time..."

You don't have to travel out of the country to find a castle to get married in. As a matter of fact, you don't even have to leave Florida! There are quite a few different ones to choose from, once you begin looking. For example, Castle Ottis in St. Augustine was created as an expression of art. It is privately owned, but can be available for small weddings. There is also Country Day Castle in Hilliard. which specializes in weddings and receptions that are fit for a princess.

The Wedding Dress
There is no set dress code for a castle wedding, unless of course the bride and groom choose to set one of their own. It could add to the ambiance to have a black tie affair and request that all of your guests show up dressed for a royal ball. As for the bride, she gets to wear whatever makes her happiest. When it comes to a wedding in a castle, though, we automatically envision big ball gowns that glide through a room and float across the dance floor.

A cathedral-length veil and a long, fabulous train add to the fantasy and drama as the bride walks down the aisle to her very own Prince Charming. Instead of one flower girl, opt for multiple young ladies, skipping down the aisle, tossing tons of flower petals everywhere. This is also the perfect opportunity to make use of train bearers, officially helping you and your amazing dress make it gracefully down the aisle. And last but certainly not least, every princess needs an exquisite tiara to grace her beautiful head.

The Experience
Simply getting the chance to be inside a castle is an exciting experience on its own. There are many additional touches that you can add throughout the decor, the color palette, and the activities to make it even more of a fairy tale setting. We imagine lots of tall, shiny candelabras at the center of every table, along with plenty of greenery intertwined with glorious blossoms. Twinkle lights are a wonderful touch, making it look as if actual fairies are gracing your celebration.

This is the perfect setting to let floating lanterns loose during the reception, and a gigantic fireworks display watched from the balcony would fit in beautifully. Your first dance could be a classic waltz, and at the end of the night, have a horse-drawn carriage take you away to your "...happily ever after!"

That's just one version of a fantastic castle wedding that could be planned. As we stated before, every bride is unique and can bring an entirely new and fresh set of ideas to planning her own fairy tale wedding. That part is all yours, but when it comes to finding your dream wedding dress, our bridal boutique in Miami can guide your search. When you are ready to start looking, make an appointment with us at Brides of America. Your amazing bridal gown, as well as your beautiful bridesmaids' dresses, are waiting here for you.

The gown of your dreams awaits you.

A Magical Disney Wedding For A Brides Of America Bride!

Many times, once a bride leaves our wedding dress store in Miami with the gorgeous bridal gown she fell in love with, we don't get the chance to see how everything turned out on the actual wedding day. When one of our Brides of America couples shares pictures with us after the wedding, we absolutely love it! Karen and Alvaro did even better than that by sharing their story along with many professional photographs from their special day.

The Proposal & Planning
Karen and Alvaro's love story sounds like something straight from a storybook. Karen met Alvaro when she was working at a video game store. He bumped into her, all the game cartridges fell, and he was a complete gentleman when he helped her pick them up. After 10 years of dating, they got engaged at midnight on New Year’s Day in Epcot.

A Disney wedding was always part of the fairy tale. The bride and groom are huge Disney fans, and Walt Disney World has always held a special place in their hearts and in their relationship. Wanting to share their love and bring their family and friends together, Karen and Alvaro chose Disney's Wedding Pavilion for their ceremony and Disney's California Grill for their reception. Fun, happiness, and love was the theme of both their love story and their magical Disney wedding!

The Dress

Karen had previously bought a white dress which she thought was "the one," but sometimes, when you least expect it, life surprises you. It was at her sister's final dress fitting (two months before her own wedding!) that Karen spotted what she called her dream dress and decided that the newest creation by Madeline Gardner, a blush pink gown with a corset of embroidered flowers, was her dream dress. All thoughts of a white dress were out the window.

It was a tight deadline, and Karen did not get to try on the dress until a week before her wedding day. With minor alterations, the dress fit perfectly and Karen left with her dream dress for her Disney dream wedding three days before the big day! After their first look, the groom told her that if someone were to take her and turn her into a dress, this would be the one! Karen's dress, bouquet, and lipstick coordinated flawlessly, and she was an exceptionally beautiful bride!

The Disney Wedding

With the final renovations of Disney's wedding Pavilion completed just two days before their wedding, Karen and Alvaro were one of the first couples to get married at the new Wedding Pavilion! Their ceremony was personal and unique, just like them, and was officiated by Harry Rubi from Sensational Ceremonies. Karen and Alvaro live-streamed the ceremony so that Karen's family from Colombia, including her grandparents, could see it all in real-time and hear their personalized vows. Readings were made in both English and Spanish to highlight and give homage to the bride and groom's Hispanic heritage.

Their reception followed at Karen and Alvaro's favorite Disney restaurant, Disney's California Grill. At the top of Disney's contemporary resort and with a direct view of the Magic Kingdom theme park, California Grill brought the fun and magic of Disney into the reception. The magic continued with a surprise visit from the main mouse himself, Mickey Mouse!

According to the couple, the best part of the day was getting married and celebrating their love at the happiest place on Earth! As for their advice for future couples: “Stop and take it all in as much as you can- enjoy each experience and savor it, as it will all go faster than you imagine it!

Karen and Alvaro's Disney magic continues as they are scheduled to return to Disney World for a theme park photo session at the Magic Kingdom and Epcot during Epcot's Flower and Garden Festival. We cannot wait to see Karen and her beautiful dress against the vibrant flowers of Epcot's world showcase.

Thank you to Root Photography for the magnificent photographs Karen and Alvaro shared with us. You can see even more magical pictures in parts 1 & 2 of the photographer's blog

If you are engaged and looking for that magical moment when you spot your own dream wedding dress, make an appointment at our Miami bridal boutique. You will get our undivided attention and extra-special care when you come in to shop. Don't worry if you cannot travel to the Miami area, because you can also purchase our amazing Madeline Gardner wedding dresses online at the Brides of America website. Which is Better - Daytime or Evening Weddings?

While the majority of weddings seem to take place on Saturday evenings, there is no set rule saying that they have to. You can get married at any time of day, on any day of the week. The key is to figure out what day and time are most convenient for you and your guests. Brides of America has gathered a few reasons why both daytime and evening weddings can be wonderful. These may help you decide which is best for your special day.

Daytime Weddings
Some couples prefer to say their "I do's" during the day for a variety of reasons. David Abadi, owner of Brides of America, chose to get married earlier in the day himself. "My wife and I are getting ready to celebrate our 22nd wedding anniversary this August. When we got married, the celebration was over by 6 pm. This was great because we had the entire night to relax.

Here are a few more reasons why you might want to have your wedding during the day:

  • Lighter Meals
Catering is one of the more costly items for a wedding. When you host a reception during the day, you can get away with serving a lighter meal than you would at dinner time. Brunch, lunch, or even an afternoon wedding with only a cocktail hour will most likely be less expensive than a full buffet dinner.
  • Natural Lighting
Daylight is a photographer's friend, so the natural lighting of a daytime wedding will be wonderful for your pictures. Also, if your ceremony and/or reception will be outdoors, you won't have to worry about lighting up the dark so that your guests can see.
  • Early Ending
When your wedding starts early in the day, that means you will be done by late afternoon or early evening. Even though weddings at night start later, people usually begin preparing early in the morning, so by midnight, the bride and groom are wiped out both mentally and physically. Ending early means that you can spend the rest of the night alone with your new spouse relaxing, and if you will be leaving for your honeymoon the next day, you won't be tired from a late night of entertaining guests.
  • Guest Friendly
You will see this "pro" listed again under evening weddings below too, but that's because, depending on your particular wedding guests, there are good things about both. For daytime weddings, your guests are more likely to stay until the end of the reception. These are also more kid-friendly if you have a guest list with small children that tire easily and early.

Evening Weddings
Most of the weddings that you are invited to are probably held in the late afternoon-early evening along with a dinner, followed by dancing. Emma, one of Brides of America's blushing brides, had an evening wedding. "We got married in the winter, so it was getting dark early anyway. The candles and twinkle lights made it all seem even more romantic."

There are plenty of reasons why this is a great time to host your event. A few of them are:

  • More Time To Get Ready
The later your ceremony starts, the more time you will have to prepare everything, including yourself. Everyone can get ready without feeling rushed, and there is plenty of time to decorate during the day if you cannot the night before. You can also get a lot of the photographs out of the way before it starts, giving you more time to enjoy your own reception.
  • Sunsets & Stars
While your daylight may be limited, your wedding will be going on when the sunset can give you an amazing backdrop. After that, if you have a venue where you will be outdoors, you've got the beautiful evening stars to dance underneath, and in the hottest summer months, the nights are comfortably cooler than at midday. The darkness also allows you to enhance the mood with the lighting.
  • Party Time
Most people are a lot more comfortable "letting loose" in the evening than they are in the middle of the day. Nighttime receptions seem to put guests in the mood to really cut it up on the dance floor and enjoy a great night out.
  • Guest Friendly
Many parents are busy during the daytime with all of their children's activities and might not be able to miss those for a daytime wedding. An evening wedding lets them use your celebration as a date night. Even guests without children will have a fun night out to look forward to. They can take care of their daily activities, then save the evening to celebrate with you. It's also better for guests coming from out of town, because they have all day free to travel.

Whether you decide to host a daytime or an evening wedding is one of the decisions that can only be made by you. Your situation will determine which one works the best, and at the end of the day, if it makes you happy, then it's the right choice for your wedding!

The beautiful wedding dresses both in our Miami Bridal Boutique and available through our online wedding dress store will look amazing on you, no matter what time of the day you decide to get married. When you are ready to shop, make an appointment at Brides of America and we will help you find the perfect look.
